Entry for October 01, 2006

Wow! Another week has passed and it's time to BLOG again. There is not much to report on the house this week. Gin did get the propane tank removed last week. The lines kept leeking and we hardly ever use it. The cost to rent a tank is not worth messing with. We purchased a kerosene heater last year during the ice storm black out, and it seemed to keep us warmer than the fireplace insert. I'll be removing the fireplace sometime in the next year. The foundation under neath needs to be rebuilt and the thing lets a lot of our heat out.

In preparing for our trip east, I needed to repair the Blazer's lack of heat output. Apparently the work on replacing the radiator and coolant jug did not solve my problems. I had the heat working at the time of the previous repairs, but it is not needed June through August. Now that the nights are getting cooler we learned that the heater core is not getting enough coolant. Saturday I started to analize the problem. My first test was to check the coolant level in the bottle (it was low) and fill it to the proper level. I removed the radiator cap (new) from the radiator (new) and discovered a large amount of sludge built up on the stopper of the cap.

After a very brief discussion with Gin, I was cleaning up what was visible on the cap and re-attaching it to the radiator. Next was removing all of our belongings and trash. I vacuumed the interior and washed the exterior. Then I removed the CD changer and we were off to the car lots for a trade in.

It didn't take long to find what we liked. The Chevy dealer in Spartanburg had a 2002 Ford Explorer 4x4 on the lot that was reasonably priced and had a warranty. We worked out the details and drove home with a decent SUV and left behind a possible (probable) lemon. Maybe we were taken advantage of since we were quick in settleing for what we bought. Maybe the dealer was taken advantage of by giving us full resale value of our Blazer with a hidden secret in the engine. I'll never ask.

We are making our final plans for the trip east. Details will be coming soon.
